Chapter Twenty-Three

Friday Morning

When Ward awoke, he was tired and groggy from a lack of good quality sleep. It took a while for him to come around as nightmares overlapped with reality for a long few minutes in the dark of his bedroom, the November sun steadfastly refusing to rise until it was damned good and ready.

He hauled himself out of bed with a groan. Norris would oversee the evidence that day to process, question, and charge Havel Marko, but Ward still wanted in, despite knowing he had to get back to working the Moore case and questioning Tony Brown.

Varga pulled at him more. His long-time nemesis. His long-term evader. They were so close—closer than they had ever been—to reaching him and Ward didn’t want to give up that hard-won ground, nor the momentum they seemed to be gathering with the help of Prap. Milanova on both sides of the British Channel.
